Giving Up the Starbucks Tax 0
I have been a Starbucks junkie for a long time.
That morning coffee jolt is just what I need to get my day started. The other 3 or 4 trips are probably as much about getting up from my desk for fresh air, but they still cost $2 a shot.
I figure that I have easily been spending $5 per working day at Starbucks since, well, since birth. That’s $25 a week or $1300 a year. For all I know, it could be more - I really have no idea.
Well starting this week, I took $25 and got a nice Starbucks thermos. I’ve been making a big pot of coffee in the morning at home and toting my thermos full of the stuff to and from the office. By the end of the day the java is a bit cold, but a bit of microwaving fixes that.
Does it taste as good as the oh so fresh Starbucks stuff. Well, honestly, no. But I take some satisfaction in the fact that I’m actually doing it and not missing the habit too badly. In the past my excuse for not following through on a habit like this has been that I would “forget” my thermos (or lunch or cash envelope, you get the idea) one day and pretty soon I was “forgetting” every single day until the habit died.
But this time around the change feels different. I told myself, If you forget to bring it then either you walk back home and get it or you do without that day. Your choice Diva.
